Here we have a Glas Customs Stratocaster build — a true homage to one of the greatest guitarists of all time, David Gilmour, and his legendary Candy Apple Red Strat. Famously his number one from the early 1980s through 2010, the original was a 1957 reissue finished in candy apple red, modified and played on countless Pink Floyd tours and recordings. This Glas Guitars build is a hand-crafted recreation of that iconic instrument, finished in relic candy apple red and built in Los Angeles as part of our Fall 2025 Collection.
The genuine Fender neck is a soft V ’57-style maple piece that’s been relic’d to simulate decades of play: rolled edges, crowned/dressed/polished frets, and a hand-shaped nut. It’s finished in hand-rubbed nitro for a smooth, played-in feel. The vintage decal is lightly aged, and the pocket fit is tight and stable — exactly how a pro Strat should feel. The build is completed with a Glas Guitars branded neck plate — our signature mark, tying it into the Fall 2025 collection.
The alder body is finished in candy apple red and relic’d by hand to replicate the dings, dark metallic flecks, and wear patterns seen on Gilmour’s guitar. It’s light at only 7.8 lbs, just like Dave’s original, which was known to be the same weight. In hand, it looks authentic and feels alive.
Electronics are the full DG-spec EMG set with the complete harness. Just as Gilmour had requested from his tech, the pickup cavities have been subtly relieved to allow lower pickup height for a more “straty” character from the active set. Plastics are single-ply with a light relic; parchment controls and cream EMGs complete the look. The 9V battery is tucked under the guard with double-sided tape, just like the original — remove three or four screws to swap when needed.
Hardware is period-correct and relic’d: Fender vintage-style tremolo set to Dave’s specs, with all screws and metal parts aged to match. Bridge string spacing is the full vintage USA spec at 56 mm, giving it the classic feel and response under the picking hand. The guitar is strung with 9–42s and set crazy low — effortless to play, smooth up and down the board, and an absolute joy under the fingers. The only deviation from the master’s spec is the shortened trem arm, which we can fit on request.

This guitar plays every bit as good as it looks. Now — love them or hate them, relics are what they are. But we ask that you take a moment to appreciate the amount of hands-on work that goes into every inch of a build like this. We’re not striving to make 100% historically accurate museum clones — we’re riffing on the era with a player-first mindset. These are art pieces as much as instruments, with every choice made to look, feel, and most importantly, sound amazing.
