Now this is a killer axe. Finished in beautifully aged three-tone sunburst with a dark rosewood fingerboard and parchment plastics throughout, this Glas Customs Golden Era build channels the look, feel and snap of a great 1963 pre-CBS Stratocaster. At an exceptionally light 7.4 lbs, it feels lively, balanced and ready to disappear under your hands.
Every Glas Golden Era build begins with brand-new genuine Fender components before being upgraded with carefully selected boutique hardware and electronics. Each instrument is built completely by hand in Los Angeles over approximately four to six months, with every detail aged, checked, assembled, wired, inspected and professionally set up before leaving our workshop.
The lightweight body is finished in a thin three-tone sunburst nitro finish with natural-looking checking and wear throughout. As with every Golden Era build, the finish has been extensively UV bombed to deepen the color, promote checking and create the subtle ambering associated with decades-old nitro. The result is an instrument that feels genuinely broken-in rather than artificially distressed. Rings like a bell unplugged...
The genuine Fender maple neck features a rosewood fingerboard, period-correct early-’60s decal, Fender/Kluson pin-stripe tuners and our signature Glas branded neck plate, complete with its own unique Glas Guitars serial number.
Like every Golden Era build, the neck pocket is exceptionally tight, helping transfer vibration cleanly between the neck and body for excellent resonance and sustain.
The neck has a comfortable ’60s C profile, 7.25" fingerboard radius and 21 vintage-style frets. The rosewood fingerboard edges have been hand rolled, the nut has been hand finished, and the frets have been professionally dressed and polished. It feels familiar from the first chord—low, loose, quick and effortless.
Electronics are built around a boutique set of hand-wound Arcane ’62 pickups. These deliver the bell-like clarity, woody midrange and slightly fuller response associated with the finest early-’60s Stratocasters. The neck pickup is glassy and dimensional, the in-between positions are hollow and expressive, and the bridge has plenty of bite without becoming harsh.
They’re paired with premium components throughout, including:
- CTS matched 450G potentiometers
- Full vintage cloth wiring
- 5-way pickup selector switch
- Treble tone control modification
- TonePros output jack
- Period-correct 0.1μF paper-in-oil capacitor
- Wired throughout using genuine vintage solder
The treble tone control modification adds useful tone control to the bridge pickup while retaining the traditional Strat layout and feel.
The chrome hardware has been tastefully aged throughout, while the vintage-spec 56mm synchronized tremolo is professionally set up fully floating with three springs. It moves smoothly, returns reliably and gives the guitar that expressive, breathing feel associated with a properly set-up vintage Strat. The tremolo arm is included.
Parchment pickguard, pickup covers, knobs and switch tip complete the early-’60s look and sit perfectly against the aged three-tone sunburst finish.
Professionally set up with 9–42 strings, the action is low, loose and fast. At only 7.4 lbs, it feels exceptionally responsive, rings beautifully unplugged and plays like hot butter.
Now — relics aren’t for everyone. But these builds aren’t museum clones. They’re made to riff on the golden era with purpose: vintage tone, old-school look, and high-performance reliability. Every piece is assembled by hand, every detail reviewed and tested before it leaves our shop. From the UV-bombed finish to the checking, wiring, nut work, and play feel — this is a boutique-grade Strat made for serious stage and studio work.
