Here we have a Glas Customs Jazz Bass build inspired by the transitional stacked pot instruments of 1961, finished in heavily aged matte Olympic White with a tortoiseshell guard, slab rosewood board and the unmistakable early Jazz Bass control layout.
At 10.2 lbs, this one is an absolute beast. It has the solid, planted feel you want from a great old Jazz Bass, with huge fundamental, serious sustain and a low end that feels almost piano like beneath the hands. The swamp ash body has plenty of natural resonance, and the neck pocket is exceptionally tight, helping the entire instrument feel like one solid piece.
Built and hand aged in Los Angeles as part of the Glas Golden Era Collection, the bass was completed over approximately four to six months. The entire instrument has been heavily UV bombed before the relic work was completed, helping the finish, plastics and hardware develop a more naturally aged look.
The swamp ash body wears a matte relic'd translucent White finish with killer edge wear, knocks, grime and exposed areas throughout. The tortoiseshell pickguard has also been heavily aged, with old school shrinkage and subtle warping that gives it the imperfect look found on genuine vintage guards.
The authentic Fender maple neck features a slab rosewood fingerboard and an early 60s C profile. It has a traditional 7.25 inch radius, 20 vintage tall frets, 34 inch scale length, 1.5 inch or 38.1mm nut width, and a vintage style heel adjust truss rod.
The neck relic is deliberately more restrained than the body, with bumps, small dings and natural looking signs of age rather than excessive wear. The fingerboard edges have been hand rolled for a smoother broken in feel, while the nut has been carefully shaped and finished by hand. The frets have received a full dress, crown and polish, giving the neck a clean and precise playing surface. Vintage reverse wound open gear tuners and a period correct Jazz Bass decal complete the look.
The pickups began life as a set of vintage late 90s Fender Jazz Bass pickups before being completely rewound by Arcane Pickups to 1961 style specifications. They are open, woody and articulate, with plenty of low end authority and the upper mid character that makes an early Jazz Bass sit so well in a mix.
The electronics are built around the distinctive stacked pot arrangement found on the earliest Jazz Basses, allowing each pickup to have its own concentric volume and tone control.

It is set up with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky bass strings, giving it the familiar balanced tension, punch and feel that suits this build perfectly.
At 10.2 lbs, this is not pretending to be a featherweight. It feels substantial, stable and unapologetically old school, and that mass translates into a bass with enormous authority. Dig in and it pushes back. Play lightly and it stays articulate and controlled.
Now, relics are not for everyone. But these builds are not museum clones. They are pieces of functional art made to riff on the golden era with purpose, vintage tone, old school looks and high performance reliability.
Condition
This bass is listed in Excellent condition. All finish wear, checking, dents, guard warping, hardware aging and cosmetic marks are intentional and form part of the Glas relic process.
