A true homage to the one of the greatest guitarists of all time and one of the coolest guitars exclusively used by Dave Gilmour through the 80's-2010 his 57'candy apple red RI number 1 red strat.
This is a Glas Guitars hand built recreation of that fantastic axe sporting all the specs used by the man himself. Hand made in Los Angeles and comes with a brand new fender tweed vintage case and keys.
The neck is a fender 57 profile soft V 9.5 radius with medium jumbo frets just as daves was altered to- replacing the vintage spec frets to medium jumbos. This has been hand relic'd and finished in a satin amber nitro- it looks worn but it's brand new. headstock has the period correct decal and has been nicely aged. Hand rolled and dressed frets and hand shaped bone nut. Neck feels wonderful and extremely comfortable to play and has kluson deluxe vintage tuners. The neck pocket is as tight as they come and was so tight we had to grease it up and slide her in.
Fender 2 piece alder body weighs 8.2lb the original was stated to be 8.3lb, and has a thin skin nitro candy apple finish that's been hand finished from 400 grit to 5000 and relic'd. Daves axe is quite hard to find detailed pictures of, but we have found some great images that we have matched this one too. Having all the small dings and metallic "black"spots through the contact reaction in the right areas to really pull it close to the original. Looks amazing, pictures don't do it justice, but plays and sounds even better.
This model has all the the DG EMG signature pickups and electronics he used fitted- the cavities had to be routed out on Daves request to allow the pickups to be set lower, to achieve the more "straty" tone as Dave stated to his tec - we have done the same and set the pickup heights to Dave's specs. The single ply fender custom shop plastics have a light relic, and controls are parchment white with the cream EMG's just like the original. As Dave's was a 57 RI- the battery was just tucked under the pick guard below the volume and tone controls, no additional routes were added, it was stuck to the inside body with double sided tape, we have done the same, and to replace the battery just remove the 3-4 corresponding screws, remove and replace.
Tremolo and all hardware is reliced and the trem is set with the 3 spring configuration and fully floating to the 3 semitone lift on the G as Dave requires. The only thing we have not added/replicated is the shortened tremelo arm- however this can be done if requested.
All screws and fittings have been reliced and marched as closely as we could to give the guitar a real feeling of authenticity- we think it looks fantastic- and it plays and sounds even better.
Comes with the red lined fender tweed like the original.
This build was long and rewarding one- we are delighted with the end result, and it's a totally hand built and crafted one of a kind guitar. Amazes us that fender never did this model but we are here to fill the gap!
